Kansas City has the engineering backbone to support the nation’s growing advanced energy industry and the workforce to support advanced energy companies. KC’s prominent engineering cluster differentiates it from all the other markets attempting to grow this industry particularly for Advanced Transportation and Battery Technology, BioEnergy and Wind.

The Engineering & Design services sector is a $2.3 billion dollar industry in the Kansas City region—73% above the U.S. average.

  • Kansas and Missouri consistently rank in the top 25% of states for the percentage of science & engineering graduates.
  • Approximately 150 engineering related firms employ over 10,000 engineers in the region.
  • The expanded industry, including both engineering and architectural services firms, comprises 30% of the professional services sector in Kansas City.
  • Kansas City is headquarters to internationally recognized engineering leaders including: Bartlett & West Inc., BHC Rhodes, Black & Veatch, Burns & McDonnell, CRB Consulting Engineers, GBA, HNTB Companies, Olsson Associates, Shafer, Kline & Warren, Terracon Consultants, TranSystems Corporation, and MRIGlobal as manager of the National Renewable Energy Lab.
